Story of Stuff

I honestly think that most of my objections about this video are based on my own experiences. I myself don’t find that I’m influenced much by commercials. I don’t shop, in fact I hate shopping. I’ve never heard of some of the things she’s talking about, do they really design products to fail and fall apart so we replace them? I think the most shocking part was that she said that president Bush told us to shop.
I do agree with a lot that she said though, recycling for instance, that is a great way to save the environment and maybe buying less stuff will help keep us clean and eco-friendly.
I absolutely don’t agree about her cycle where she says that all we do is work then shop then watch tv who says we suck and so we go back to work and shop again and then tv again. I personally don’t agree with that because I’m relatively sure that most people I’ve met don’t do that but maybe I’m wrong.
I’m sort of 50/50 whether I believe everything she says but I am very excited to watch the critique.
Story of Stuff Critique
Zoe Tucker
Some things he came up with were strong valid arguments. We forest but then we plant new trees and wait so we can do it again, and then some of his arguments didn’t make sense, he missed the big picture or he just blew a raspberry like a child. I managed to run out of time and not be able to finish the critique, so sorry, but after watching the bit that I did watch I started to slowly lean towards the lady’s point of view. Sure she may have simplified things a little too much and left out some details, life isn’t all black and white lines, here’s the evil line and the US government crossed it, but her general message made a lot of sense. Just to a lesser extent than she proposed.
Our planet is dying, it’s true, and we don’t seems to be doing a lot to stop it. Our natural ecosystems are being destroyed and our water is being polluted in a lot of places. On the other hand though, there are also groups trying to save our planets, people trying to separate garbage so as to make less of an impact, people planting trees around the world to grow our forests back, and people cleaning rivers. We do need to work on how we impact our planet, it’s a privilege to have earth, not a right.

National Labor Company
I’m aware that if they paid the workers more than they are paid now they would not be able to keep the company afloat, the workers would probably get enough money that they wouldn’t have to work there, they could get other jobs and leave. But then…..what happens to that company then? Bankruptcy that’s what would happen. Not exactly great for the rest of the world right, but that’s selfish. I can just imagine being swapped into that situation right now, looking around basically all the things in this room would be gone. Computers, gone. Proper roof, gone. Air conditioning, gone. Human rights…..gone.
Pros
Efficient
No taxes
Products for the rest of the world
Cons
They’re treated horribly
Long hours
Ridiculously mundane job
Treated more like animals than people

He for She: Emma Watson's Speech Reflection
I really appreciated her opinion on the topic of feminism. Feminism is does not mean that women are better than men, it does not mean that feminists hate men, it means gender equality. I really loved how her point of view said that even men need their stereotypes to change, and that not only women are being oppressed (even though that can be considered the larger problem seeing as women's wages and such are being affected). She made a lot of strong points and I think if people weren't so stubborn that kind of speech would have made a much bigger impact than it has so far.
I absolutely agree with pretty much everything she said and I hope He for She has or will make an impact.
